Kottayam district was formed in July 1949. Before when Travancore - Kochi joined there were three Revenue divisions : Thiruvanathapuram-Kollam-Kottayam. These were under the administration of "Diwan Peshkar". When the State formed it become 'district' and under the administration of District Collector'.
