Aranmula Vallamkali, the water fiesta of Aranmula during Onam (September), owes its origin to the Sree Parthasarathy temple. This Krishna temple is situated on the banks of the Pamba river in Aranmula, a picturesque village 10 km from Chengannur. The commencement of the event is marked by the snake boat race in the afternoon. Early morning, the snake boats assemble near the temple and take off in pairs. Each boat is 30 ft long accommodates four helms men, 100
rowers and 25 singers. It is more of a water fiesta than a competition.
Maramadi matsaram (Ox race)
This ox race is held at Ananthapally 15 minutes drive from Adoor on the Pathanamthitta road. This race is held as part of the largest annual agricultural and cattle fair in the region in August. It is considered as exciting as a jackpot horse race. Three races are held and the winning pairs are awarded trophies, cash awards and gold medals.
